A catechism teacher encouraged the children to form a habit of giving alms at a young age. She told them to ask their parents for one rupee to put in the collection box on Sundays.
A month later, she asked the children which of them had given to the Sunday collections. All but one boy raised their hands.
When questioned, the boy replied: “Teacher, we are poor ourselves. B ut every Sunday my mother takes me to visit those who are poorer than us. She also takes me to comfort some elderly people living in the aged home. A few of those people eagerly wait for their loved ones to visit them.”
It may not be within the reach of some people to help monetarily but they possess an apostle’s heart, to take pity on the needy, visit the sick and comfort the lonely.
