The body–that is but dust; the soul is a bud of eternity.
A priest was once asked by a doctor why he preached about the salvation of souls. “Did you ever see a soul? Did you ever hear a soul? Did you ever taste a soul? Did you ever smell a soul?” To all these he received the answer, “No”. But when the doctor asked, “Did you ever feel a soul?” he replied, “Yes, indeed!”
“Well,” said the doctor,”there are four of the five senses against you. So I doubt that there is a soul.”
Then it was the priest’s turn. “You are a doctor of medicine,” he said. “It is your business to treat pains. Did you ever see, hear, taste, or smell a pain? No, of course, not. You have only felt pain. There are four senses to one against you. Yet you know and I know that there is pain. By the same proof, I know that the soul exists.”
