Jesus Christ set a big goal for every one of His followers. His Twelve Apostles took him very literally. They made a desperate try to reach the “whole world” of their time with His message of love and truth. During their short lifetime they succeeded in a phenomenal way.
Whenever Christ’s followers have felt a deep and personal responsibility to bring His truth and love to the world itself, they have acted daringly and have been blessed with results that have left their mark on history.
On the other hand, whenever those who call themselves Christians have lowered their sights, becoming merely local-minded, and forgotten their world objective, they have in effect betrayed their cause and left the door open to the misery that inevitably follows. Only when more take it upon themselves to fulfill this sublime commission will the dream of lasting peace become a reality.
Those who spread hatred of God and their fellowman from one end of the earth to the other can never be accused of being small-minded, or lacking in vision, imagination and enterprise. Their chief strength is our weakness. The best way to remedy this is to do what Christ said:
Jesus drew near and said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Go, then, to all people, everywhere and make them my disciples; baptise them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age. (Mathew 28:18-20).
